My Top 5 Cozy Movies

Hello hello! I’m back today with a simple topic—some of my favorite movies. This post may get some judgement—a quiet scoff, a little side-eye—because some of my favorite movies are pretty cheesy. But part of this journey of “acting the giddy goat” has been learning to love what I love and be okay with it. Because, my friends, if you love something, that alone gives it value. It doesn’t matter if you’re the only one. So love that thing and embrace it!

Here are the five top movies I love without shame, my go-tos for a rainy or stressful day that fill me with those happy, cozy feels and make everything better.

1. Cinderella

Cinderella

I love this movie. Objectively I can see how it’s not the most original or brilliant or groundbreaking piece of media ever (far from it), but something about this pretty little cheeseball movie makes me so. happy. This is for sure my automatic pick when I want a little mood boost. It also has the added bonus of making me want to be a better person, so I’m okay with that. Plus it stars Richard Madden, who is a delight to look at even if it is a strangely photo shopped, Ken doll version of him. I’ll move on from this one for now, but fear not—we’ll be back on the Cinderella train soon.

2. A Knight’s TaleAKnightsTale

What a delightful movie this is, and yet it seems like it is rarely ever talked about. Scruffy Heath Ledger, bare-butt Paul Bettany, and Alan Tudyk doing his Tudyky thing? All the ingredients of a perfect evening, and oh, this movie has my heart. I miss it “like the sun misses the flower. Like the sun misses the flower in the depths of winter.” Cozy and funny, with a great soundtrack to boot. It’s definitely time for a rewatch soon—who’s with me?

3. Little WomenLittle Women

Little Women is absolute perfection all of the time, but especially on a chilly winter night. It is so consistently heart-warming, it’s sure to keep you cozy whatever the weather. This is nearly perfectly cast (with the exception of older Amy—whyyyy) and, well, Christian Bale has been a celebrity crush since I learned that celebrity crushes were a thing so obviously his role as Laurie made this movie an instant hit for me. And as much as I love a good on-screen romance (and I really, really do), movies with family relationships and all that comes with them get me in the feels every time.

4. The HolidayThe Holiday

Did I mention I love a good romantic story line? Turns out that applies even when the romantic lead is Jack Black. Even with that strange casting choice, I love love love this movie. And the funny thing is, I really only love half of it. As handsome as Jude Law is, I don’t really like most of the scenes with him and Cameron Diaz…which make up half the movie. The Iris and Miles half of the story just steals the show with its sweetness, and Iris finding her “gumption” makes me grin like a fool without fail. Also, fun fact—this is the second movie on this list that features Rufus Sewell (Jasper in The Holiday, Count Adhemar in A Knight’s Tale), so he’s probably the secret ingredient to a perfect cozy movie.

5. Ever AfterEver After

And last but certainly not least is the lovely Ever After, another Cinderella movie. This was one of my favorite movies growing up and it remains one of my favorites to this day. If you ever want to watch a movie with one of those annoying people who quotes every line along with the characters (because that is totally something everyone wants to do), watch this movie with me. I don’t even know what exactly it is about this movie that I adore so much—the “evil stepmother” played flawlessly by Anjelica Huston? Loveable and wise Leonardo da Vinci? Hilariously awkward (and relatable) stepsister Jacqueline?—but this is a movie that will never fall from grace for me.

So what do you think of my list? Anything on here that you love too? Let me know your favorite cozy movies—I’d love to hear! Who knows, maybe you will introduce me to my new number one! And I’d be perfectly fine with that.
