Nailed It!

Recently while browsing Netflix trying to find something to binge watch, I came across the lovely show, Nailed It! (a Netflix Original show).  And I fell in love with it! It’s a hysterical reality competitive baking show, that doesn’t take itself too seriously!  So, every episode has three contestants that are just home bakers, as in, they’re just self-taught– not professionally trained at all, and they attempt their hand at re-creating edible popular/viral masterpieces.  Only… the baker’s don’t have great track records in their own kitchens, so the final outcomes are hilarious!! But whichever amateur baker comes closest to a successful dessert by the end of the episode takes home the $10,000 prize.  This show has three judges, Comic Nicole Byer, and renowned pastry chef Jacques Torres, and then a third guest judge that changes every episode (always someone who is in the baking world). Nicole is also the host and she is just awesome and the perfect fit for the show, with all her funny jokes, quips, and her personality!  (IMDB)

The contestants compete in two challenges but there is no elimination round until the very end when they announce the winner.  The first challenge is basically a warm-up and usually something that is a smaller task, like re-creating a donut or a cupcake. Whoever wins that round gets to wear the Golden Chefs Hat and wins a prize (usually it’s a baking kit that they can take home and use in their own businesses/kitchens), it’s basically a round that gives recognition to someone that the others should look out for in the upcoming round.  The next and last round is usually something that is more challenging, such as a multi-layer cake– one where they have to build upon. The goal is to try their hardest to re-create something like this:

But, uh … things don’t always turn out as pretty…

Most of the time we get results like this instead:

Pretty funny, right?!  I can’t stop laughing! This show brings me such joy and laughter into my life!  If you’re ever feeling down or had a bad day and need a pick me up or a good laugh, then this show is for you!

One of my favorite contestants was a woman by the name of Amanda from the second episode (of Season 1), she reminded me of my mom a little bit lol, and I knew my mom would relate to her.  The first task that they were given was to make some Pirate themed jelly filled donuts. Part way through making her donut, she tried making a “hole” because she had never seen a donut without one!!!  And I’ll repeat that this challenge was for a JELLY FILLED donut!!! I died! There were other funny Amanda moments, but I don’t want to spoil any more of it for you, in case you haven’t already watched it.  It was great and an episode you should definitely see for yourself!

If I haven’t already convinced you to watch it, then here, maybe this trailer for it will better convince you:

Also, here’s a fun Top 5 Hilarious Fails on Netflix’s Nailed It! By MsMojo but fair warning if you don’t want to be spoiled about some of the episodes then maybe hold off on watching this one!  You’ve been warned!:

I love how this show is light-hearted and doesn’t take itself so seriously.  It embraces mistakes and imperfections, which is definitely refreshing for a change.  Also, it’s extremely funny and is good for the soul and something that shouldn’t be missed!  If you’re in need of a laugh, this show is the show for you and definitely won’t disappoint!
